How long have you been tattooing?

6 years.

What made you want to get into tattooing?

I have always enjoyed art since I was young and knew I wanted to do something in life that utilized my passion to create. After high school I enrolled in the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) and studied the fundamentals of visual arts. Once I started getting tattooed I took an interest in the specific field and started seeking out an apprenticeship.

You tattoo both black and grey and colour — which do you prefer?

I truly do not have a preference, I enjoy tattooing a variety of styles. Mainly I enjoy fine line black and grey/illustrative pieces.

What style would you like to do more of?

I also really love doing American traditional tattoos with lots of bold colours and would love to do that style more often.

You have a lot going on in your personal life — can you share?

I am a mother of two kids and pregnant with my third! I am also newly engaged and looking forward to getting married in the next few years. My family is my reason to thrive.

What would you say to someone who wants to start a career in tattooing?

Practice, practice, practice. Hone your drawing skills on paper first. Find a style that speaks to you. Build a strong portfolio.

What music is the best to listen to while you tattoo?

I listen to everything from K-pop to death metal.

What artist has influenced you the most in your career?

I enjoy the work of Caravaggio and the style of painting that emerged during the baroque time period — the drama and the use of shadows always inspired my artwork.

What is the most important piece of advice you can give someone who wants to get their first tattoo?

Research your artist and make sure they match the style of tattoo you want. Make sure they are good at communicating with you and are looking out for your best interest. Also — stay hydrated. Eat a good meal beforehand. Bring snacks.
